I’ve updated my Web-design section of my site to show two sites that I was working on. They’re only at maybe 50% but it should show you where they’re headed. Hopefully it’ll also be good motivation for me to get some more work done on them

For those of you trying to style the search box on your Wordpress page and having difficulties, make sure turn off the search widget, and include searchfrom.php instead. If your changes still aren’t being relfected properly you could always try style wp-includes/widgets.php (about line410). Remember tho if you change it here though, it’ll be changed in all your themes.

This website is fairly new. I’ve been designing sites for several years now, and as I’ll soon be embarking on a web design career path I thought it would be wise to cement my online presence. Thus began the quest to build this site. It’s been through a few iterations, and I’m sure it’ll change even more in the coming years but for me, it has been one of the trickiest sites to design. I think it’s because the site is so personal that I just could not come up with a design that I was happy with. I nearly threw this one out, and in fact went pretty far on another design. One of the biggest problems for me was reconciling my personality with my professionalism. I’m someone that will always go to an interview clean shaven and in a shirt, so it was hard for me to embrace the aesthetics that I like, knowing that some folk might think they’re unprofessional. In the end though, I decided I’d rahter have something that represented me, than another clean white page. I know there’s a middle ground, but after looking at Elliot Jay Stocks’ page it confirmed that I should do what works for me. It’s something I’m still not happy about, and I might make an alternative stylesheet just for that purpose.
In the meantime, here are some resources that I used when designing this site.
Blog.Design: great, friendly well written site with lots of indepth tips and tutorials to help you along. If you’re sick of lists of ‘ways to improve your blog’ and want something a little meatier, this is the site for you.
Blog cheat sheet: If you’re not bored of lists, here’s the answer to many of your blog ponderings. It’s long but well sectioned.
Enjoy the site!
